Parenting Toolkit

You’ve had your baby, yay! Now what?!

I know from experience that adjusting to life as a parent can sometimes feel a bit overwhelming. Below are some tools and articles that I have personally found to be helpful in navigating those first few months with a newborn.

THE LAST DAYS OF PREGNANCY – A PLACE OF INBETWEEN

I love this article for those last, long weeks of pregnancy.

BABY EARS BY DBL (DUNSTAN BABY LANGUAGE)
http://www.dunstanbaby.com
This tool teaches you how to interpret the various cries your baby makes. There are 5 ‘words’ that all babies express to communicate their needs. This tool will help you to better understand and have more confidence in how to respond to your baby. You can download an app, purchase the DVD or watch online.

THE WONDER WEEKS
http://www.thewonderweeks.com
This is so cool! The Wonder Weeks explains why babies are often unexplainably fussy and gives information about the leaps they are making in their mental development. I found it so helpful when going through a rough patch with my daughter to understand what was happening in her world and what new skills she was learning. The Wonder Weeks will help you to see that it is just a phase, and how you can better support your baby through that phase. You can purchase the book, download an eBook or download an app. (I highly recommend the app!)

SLEEP
http://sugarnightnight.com/
Jen Varela at Sugar Night Night is an amazing local resource for sleep issues. She will talk you through those sleepless nights and also offers local classes for parents. She definitely helped me through some rough patches when I was at my wit’s end!

Another great resource for sleep is Elizabeth Pantley’s “No Cry Sleep Solution”.

NATURAL HOSPITAL BIRTHING FACEBOOK GROUP
https://www.facebook.com/groups/172076123125556/
This is a wonderful group that may be really helpful for this last month of pregnancy with any questions you have. There is also an amazing resources section in the Files part of the group.

SEMI-CRUNCHY MAMA FACEBOOK GROUP
https://www.facebook.com/groups/semicrunchymamaclub/
I have found this Facebook group to be a very helpful, supportive place to ask any questions you may have about parenting. I would highly recommend joining.

EXPECTFUL MEDITATIONS
http://www.expectful.com
Expectful is guided meditation for your fertility, pregnancy, and motherhood journey. I highly recommend downloading this app and adding one or more of these meditations to your daily routine.
